A&W: Our History
Founded in 1919, A&W is the oldest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants in North America. We started as a root beer stand in Lodi, California. Mr. Roy W. Allen and his partner, Frank Wright, created A&Wroot beer and sold it to thirsty customers out of jugs. We eventually began franchising the A&W brand and operate now more than 1400 restaurants across Canada and the United States. Our goal has always been to deliver delicious burgers, wings, sides and shakes – premium quality food made with fresh ingredients prepared when you order it.
